I wanted to like this book, I had high hopes but it wasn’t for me.

I found it slow going; nothing of major important happens until the last 15% the story. The other 85% was background filler. Its goes through Teal’s life from birth to teenager. I believe that could have been condensed down into the first two or three chapters. For me it was too drawn out. In truth from the synopsis I had the image that the story was going to pick up right when Teal was 16 or 17. That he was going to be fighting this evil that moved into his town, as in he was already in the town when the darkness arrives. So the start of the book threw me for a loop.

Review Update! My Love STORY!!, Vol 4

My Love Story!!, Vol. 4My Love Story!!, Vol. 4
By: Kazune Kawahara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this story so much. It's everything I've ever wanted from a shoujo manga.

You don't have to wait for the end for the MC's to actually get together, or wait like 10 vol's just to see some progress. It's all there, right out of the gate.

Review Update! Exodia

Exodia (Exodia Ledgers, #1)Exodia

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

( I received this ARC free from the Author in exchange for my honest review )

I'm So-so on this book. The concept and idea was great, but I wasn't drawn into this world like I wanted.

The writing style, for me was flat, monotone. Everything was simply put, as it was. There was no jump, no spark; I didn't feel anything when reading. Well that's not all true at times I did feel anger, and discomfort. There was no depth to the writing, no pulling description on how the characters were feeling. I first took note to this when Dalton kills a man, who was beating on a red child. He processes what he had done a little too robotic. Yes guilt was present, but he only spoke of it, didn't really express it, and nor I did feel it or believe it. From there, the tone got flatter and flatter. I didn't feel the urgency, the rush, or the pain he must have been in. It was all very, forced.

Release Day! Exodia by Debra Chapoton

Magnus Chase & the Gods of Asgard -Sword of Summer - Cover Revealed!

On June 20th Rick Riordan unveiled the cover for his new book and new series. I'm super excited, I love all of his work, even have all the box sets; but they’re just to look at. For my reading enjoyment I have all his books on my ereader.

Here's a quote I swiped from his blog.

"I'm delighted to share with you the final cover for The Sword of Summer, the first book in the series Magnus Chase & the Gods of Asgard. If you missed the reveal, with a sneak peek of chapter two, you can check it out on USA Today's site. The book will be published on October 6, 2015!"

Are you not as excited as I am? And the cover, it’s breathtaking. There’s so much power in that one image, so many things whispering at me, trying to tell me it’s secrets. I’m never one to wish for summer to end, but damn it, I can’t wait for October :p..

What about you? Are you a fan; are you not as excited or more as I am? Let it out in the comments below.

Fore more info about this head on over to Rick Riordan's website »

Happy Reading

Spotlight Friday! I Belong To The Earth by J.A. Ironside

Review Update! I Belong To The Earth

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

( I received this book free from the author in exchange for my honest review )

This was a different read for me, so far out of what I normally read. Not in genre but in the story and plot itself. This book is more than your run-of-the-mil YA supernatural/paranormal romance. It felt, to me, like a true ghost story. It wasn't about saving the world; it wasn't about anything other than a broken girl trying to save what little of her family she had left, while trying to come to teams with her own demons. I don't believe I have ever been so emotionally invested in a story before. My heart is still pounding.

Love, lots of love for this wonder.

Lately I've been reading a lot of books that have not lived up to their hype, or were misleading either in their book cover, synopsis or both. This book was everything I hoped for and more. The cover is near perfect and the synopsis doesn’t toss out fluff that leaves you confused while reading. .

(I received this book free from Goodreads group, {Shut up and Read}[Read it and Reap] in exchange for my honest review.

This book has made me fall in love with YA again, or can you call it YA, this has more of a NA feeling to it. In all, I'm in deep feels with this wonder. This story is original, and it strayed away from the normal cliché that haunt YA/NA books. For one there was no, NO, insta-love; in fact love wasn't even mentioned.

Free on Amzon! Carrots: A Shelby Nichols Adventure by Colleen Helme

Published: August 29th 2013 by Createspace (first published February 23rd 2011)
Paperback: Second Edition, 192 pages
Edition Language: English
Series: Shelby Nichols #1
Goodreads Rating: 3.71 of 5 ★
Amazon Rating: 4.30 of 5 ★

Synopsis

Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ISBN: 1456414143 (ISBN13: 9781456414146).

Shelby Nichols is an average woman who is married to the only guy she ever fell for. Her life is organized and predictable, revolving around her husband and two children. All that changes the day she stops at the grocery store for some carrots.

As the cashier rings up her purchases, a gunman is busy robbing the bank inside the store. When a customer grabs the robber's mask, he is shot and everyone runs for cover. Everyone except Shelby, who finds herself face to face with the killer. The next thing she knows, she's lying on the floor with a bullet wound to her head. Luckily, the bullet only grazes her scalp, and she doesn't suspect any lasting affects until later, when she suddenly 'hears' what people are thinking.

With this uncanny ability, her life takes on a whole new dimension. Her kids think she's bossy and too old to understand them, but that's nothing compared to her husband. He says he loves her, but what is it about the redhead at work that he doesn't want her to know? As if that isn't enough, the gunman knows she can identify him, and he's out to silence her forever.

In her fight to stay alive, she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime. This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone's thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed.
