Theo Walker - Ansel Elgort - This is the only person I could ever envision playing Theo Walker. On screen, he has that charm and charisma that makes you weak in the knees. When it comes to picking a leading man for something you’ve written you want to make sure that whoever you choose makes you believe everything they say. If this man was spouting off sweet sweet lines to me, there’s no question that I’d buy whatever he was selling.
Sela Monroe - Beanie Feldstein - Sela is more of a trickier character to cast. She’s definitely multi-faceted. As far as casting her goes I wanted someone who was capable of displaying a wide range of emotion. Sela goes through a hell of a lot in the book. More than anything she grows so much. Beanie Feldstein is a perfect fit.
Annie Miller - Anna Camp - I have always been impressed with Anna Camp. I have been impressed with her since her True Blood days. She encapsulates everything I’d ever want in a best friend. Whenever I’m re-reading or revising My Nights With You and going over Annie’s parts I see her giving Sela that look of concern.
Gus Santiopolis - Theo James - Most people don’t know this, but Gus is probably my favorite character. I think sometimes we all get bogged down by life and trauma that we forget that there are wonderful people out there who make us forget about all of the bad. Gus is such a positive influence on Sela. He sees things in her that she doesn’t see in herself. I think we all know Theo James as Four in the Divergent films. What he embodies though is someone strong and someone who isn’t afraid to fight for the things he wants. Also someone who stands up for what they believe in. Theo’s been my Gus from the jump.
