Northwoods Magic by Desiree Lafawn is a dark magical thriller that had my heart in a vase. This fast read was an emotional ride that told the story of the struggles of accepting who you are, the fighting between fiction and reality, and what it is to truly take hold of your life.

Quinn, our MC, is a broken woman, she is looking for the pieces of her broken past and the truth that they hold. Shrouded in the darkness she has to navigate her own mine, her powers, to weed out the static to see the light. Her growth was strong, steady and fast. Once she grasps what was real, she quickly knew what she wanted.

I was capture by this book, its dark opening set the stage for what was to come. It twisted the way for the heavy tone and the bloody fight that would forever shape our characters. The only thing that I didn't like, was that there was some slight repeating happening. Quinn told her full story, one too many times for my liking. There was no need to fully explain it for a new character. A quick nod and dodge would have been fine for the readers.

Outside of that small annoyance, this book is truly one of a kind. We are taken to a magical world that lies in our backyards. The focus is on our MCs, about their past, their present and how they will heal moving towards the future. This is a love story, through and through. One that will touch your heart and soul. Take my high recommendation that you will be sucked into this compelling story of what it is to embrace truth, love and hope.

Happy Reading.
