First lets start with a little bit about how I starting to love reading. I didn't always loved books, I actually hated reading when I was a child.
It wasn't until grade 10 that I started to get more into books. My best-friend at the time recommend that I read this book he was all gun-ho about. I was, (still am), into anime. He said if I like anime then I would love this book The Wayfarer Redemption. It took me three months to read it; but I'm so glad I did! Since then, I haven't stopped.
Who inspired me? Well my mom was always a reader, and I use to get mad when she read, because there was no getting her attention. My dad, also a reader, but I can't remember actually seeing him read, I just remember seeing the books after the fact. But the person that I thank for getting me into reading, is David. That first book started it all.
I have many favourite authors and books, but the ones that really stick out in my mind? Well, again that list is quite long. So how do I to pick? Well I think the easiest was is to go with the first book that pops into my head.
The winner is? Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This is just one of those books that to this day, I can't get over how good, or how much I love it. I believe it maybe because, to this day, I haven't read another book like it. The plot, the world building, the characters and the fantasy is just outstanding. You have all your normal players, but it isn't the normal formula.
Every Other Day wasn't the first book I read from Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Without knowing, I read Nobody.
Nobody is another unique book that pulls you into a abnormal world that is Jennifer Lynn Barnes's mind. Again, I was so entranced by the originality that when I finished the book I was sad, only because I wanted more. The end though, was by far one of the best I've even read. It closed out the book perfectly, with no linger questions, and forgotten plot holes.
The thing is, I didn't even look at the the author when I first got the above book, I was heading out to sea so I was stockpiling. It wasn't until I read Every Other Day that I started to pick up on the similar writing style and tone. It's amazing how every author has their own tone, or better yet, voice. I could hear her voice.
So besides her incredible book, why am I a fan of Jennifer Lynn Barnes? Well, I love different, unique writing styles and original takes of fantasy. She has them all and that's the reason I keep coming back. I have all her books, I have yet to read them all, but it will happen. And one day when I have a library in my home, and I'll have a shelf just for her.

Great Post! So many books-So little time:)
ReplyDeleteNice story on how you got into reading. It's funny how you'd think kids would gravitate to stories outside of their world naturally, but it's not always so. Glad you found your way! Nancy’s Blog
