Savage begins the Dragonrider Legacy series, a thrilling companion to the international bestselling Dragonrider Chronicles.
Never send a hero to do a monster’s job.
Forty years have passed since Jaevid Broadfeather brought peace to Maldobar and Luntharda. But that fragile truce will be tested as darkness gathers on the horizon. The vicious armies of the Tibran Empire have crossed the far seas and are threatening to destroy Maldobar completely. Not even the dragonriders can match the Tibran war machines. And after an attempt to awaken Jaevid from his divine sleep fails, the fate of Maldobar is looking grim.
Reigh has never known what it means to be a normal human. Raised amongst the gray elves in the wild jungle of Luntharda, he’s tried everything to fit in. But the dark power within him is bursting at the seams—refusing to be silenced. And while his adoptive father, Kiran, insists this power must be kept secret, Reigh knows he’s running out of time.
As Maldobar burns, the world is desperate for a new hero. Destiny has called, and one boy will rise to answer.

How/Where do you find inspiration?
People ask me this all the time, and I’m never sure how to answer. Honestly, it’s something different for every book. Something sparks in my brain and before I know it, it’s a wildfire bursting at the seams and I just HAVE to write it down.
Music is probably the most common source of inspiration or me, though. I have really eclectic tastes in music, though. From movie soundtracks to 90s pop to Five Finger Death punch – I love it all! I also have set playlists for writing different types of scenes. Certain songs or bands just have a way of helping me channel those moods.
Some of the songs that inspired me while writing SAVAGE were:
Awake and Alive - Skillet
Believer – Imagine Dragons
Closer – The Chainsmokers
New Divide – Linkin Park
The Last Night – Skillet
Falling Into Black – Skillet
Whispers in the Dark – Skillet
I Will Show You – From Ashes to New
Centuries – Fall Out Boy
Shadows – Red
Mama – Jonas Blue
I get a lot of inspiration on Pinterest, too. I have folders upon folders of pictures squirreled away because something about them struck my interest. I aspire to writing the depth and complexity of characters featured in the Dragon Age games, as well. I think getting to work on one of those games and write plot or work with character development would be the epitome of awesome.
Overall, it really just depends. There’s so many elements and bits and pieces that go into a book, and so many of them come from different places. For SAVAGE, a lot came from the first series and simply going into even greater depth with those characters and their world. Writing for Middle Grade was amazing and a lot of fun, but I also felt sort of constrained by what I could do and how much detail I could put in when it came to depth. I had to keep reminding myself to step back and keep it simple, follow the story and don’t overindulge. There was just so much about Maldobar and Luntharda I had to leave untouched for the sake of time. But now, the cuffs are off!
