An ancient Hopi myth says people arrived on tiny silver pods that fell from the sky.
But the truth is far more terrifying.
Two-hundred fifty-eight teens are sent from a dying Earth to a terraformed Mars as part of the Emergence Program, mankind’s last hope before solar flares finish off their planet and species. Among the brave pioneers are sixteen-year-old Joey Westen and her twin brother, Jesse.
After only minutes in space, something triggers a total ship lock down.
With the help of their roommates, the Matsuda twins (notorious hackers and shady secret-keepers), Joey and Jesse stumble onto an extremist plot to sabotage the Emergence Program.
But Joey and Jesse didn’t travel to the deepest pits of space and leave their mother behind to be picked off in a high-tech tin can. They’ll lie, hack, and even kill to survive the voyage and make it to Mars.

Let’s start with, how are you this find day?

The weather outside is chilly, but I'm keeping warm by the fire with a good book. So, it’s a wonderful day. I hope everyone out there in the blogsphere is having a great day as well.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

My head is full of crazy ideas for books. I blame a childhood squandered to video games and anime. I jot down brief outlines every time I get a new idea, but doubt I’ll ever have enough time to write as many books as I’d like.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories in my teen years, but I didn’t attempt my first novel until 2012 at age 32. That script was a disaster, all telling and backstory, but it reignited my passion for writing so I tried again with a fresh storyline.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Most of my time is devoted to writing and editing, it’s what I love to do. Though, I make sure to set aside time every day to hang with the fam.

What does your family think of your writing?

My family was quite surprised at how loud writing and editing a novel can be. They’ve grown accustomed to the random Ah-ha! and the groans of frustration that echo from my office, which is really a desk shoved in the corner of the living room.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I spent a good portion of my life looking for that thing, the thing that makes my heart sing. I wasn’t even halfway through my first manuscript when I discovered that thing was writing. It was a surprise, but a good one.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I’ve just completed my 10th manuscript. Six out of those ten have found homes with amazing publishing houses. Each story I write, even those collecting dust on a virtual shelf, is my favorite for a different unique reason. Some have characters I adore, others have settings I’m jealous of, but each is special to me.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I have received a few emails and tweets from readers who loved the intensity of my stories. Each time a reader reaches out, my heart jumps into my throat. It’s the greatest feeling to know people are connecting with your words.

Have you even been sent far art?

I haven’t been lucky enough to receive any fan art yet, but I hope to someday.

What do you think makes a good story?

For me, unconventional characters make the story. I like to see things from all types of perspectives, so I tend to lean toward novels with eccentric characters regardless of genre.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

When I was a child, I really wanted to be a mad scientist. Messy lab with arcing wires, radical inventions on steel workbenches, the whole shebang. But then I discovered mad scientist wasn’t an actual profession and wandered from job to job until I found writing.

What is that one weird quirk about yourself, that no one else knows?

I have lots of weird quirks, but everybody knows about them since I’m such a vocal person. I guess my weirdest quirk is I don’t like the ice in my cup to float. The liquid should be level with the ice, or it melts too quickly.

If you had your time back what would you tell yourself about writing?

The only thing I’d tell past me about writing is to start earlier.

Last but not least,

Do you believe in ghost? Or have you ever had an encounter with the other kind?

As a writer I like to imagine there’s all kinds of otherworldly entities lurking in the shadows, but as of yet I’ve never seen any concrete evidence to either prove or disprove their existence.

Thank you for answers my questions
