Never Fear the Reaper
by Ashley Pagano
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Never Fear the Reaper (Never Fear The Reaper #1) by Ashley Pagano was a action packed, fun, and entertaining read that had me hooked form start to finish.
My first read by this author and this series, I was intrigued not only by the name, cover but, the synopsis. I was not let down and quickly devoured this book. Being that it comes in at 176 pages, it didn't take me long at all to finish getting lost in Ryder's and Chase's world.
I loved Ryder as a character, he was blunt, straight forward and was a the best sort of badass. She kick death in the face, in more ways then one. Watching Chase wormed his way into her heart was fun, and it played out in a way making it realistic. The romance didn't overshadow the plot and there was no weird love confessing to make it awkward.
I did want a little more on Chase, being that it is told from his POV, there wasn't much detail on him, and in truth I had a hard time putting a face to him. I also wish it was told in dual POV, cause I really wanted to know what was going on in Ryder's head. Especially at the end, cause I feel like there could have been more added to make that bloody fight, more in depth and amazing. Having that epic fight scene told from a third party and not from the fightee, make it less impactful. A fight scene like that needs to be centre stage, and not back seated for the lesser stuff. But all in all it was pretty epic, and that fight scene was choreographed splendidly.
Overall I had a time reading about this book, even if it did end on a little but of a cliff-hanger. Luckily all books are out, cause I need to know what Chase and Ryder has gotten themselves into. Cause there was something giving at the end there, that has my mind racking with theories.
Please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval that you will get lost in this story as I have, and have just as much bloody, paranormal fun.
Happy Reading
