The aftermath of what happened in the capital has shaken Torien to the core. Battling self-doubt and bitterness, he must find his resolve as he is sent back to Tasso to quell a violent uprising on the Road.

But Torien will need more than resolve to navigate the deadly path before him. His troops are inexperienced and his new adjutant untrustworthy. A series of murder attempts leaves the whole camp on edge. As the threat of mutiny builds, the mission seems doomed before they even reach Tasso—and Torien is beginning to suspect it was meant that way. He and his men are being set up to fail.

With his best friend in the hands of the rebels, his commanding officer refusing to negotiate a peace treaty, and his own men ready to turn on him at any moment, Torien must decide once and for all how much he’s willing to sacrifice for an empire he no longer believes in.

Let’s start with, how are you this fine day?

Jet-lagged—I just made a six-hour time jump—but good!

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

With the Blood Oath series, I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from research I did while at university in
pursuit of a history degree. My focus area was the late Roman army, and you can definitely see that
influence in the world of Blood Oath. But ideas and inspiration can really come from anything, anywhere,
at any time.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

The first book I wrote, revised, and queried with serious intent to publish was actually a fantasy novel
set in the same world as Blood Oath. I was twenty. I eventually self-published the manuscript, but it’s
thankfully out of print now.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I enjoy biking, watching baseball and hockey, traveling, and going out to eat with family and friends.

What does your family think of your writing?

The stuff I write generally isn’t their cup of tea, but they’re all very supportive anyway.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

This actually just struck me as I was answering questions for another interview—but how quickly
young people were expected to become adults in ancient societies.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I’ve taken four manuscripts to submission stage—that first self-published novel, the two Blood Oath
books, and a YA WWII novel that’s currently out on submission to publishers with my agent. Each
tends to be my favorite while I’m writing it, but I think I’d have to say I’m proudest of the WWII novel,
because it was (and is) the most challenging, in every sense.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

To this point, I haven’t gotten a lot of reader feedback—apart from my dedicated critique partners and
beta readers, of course!

Have you even been sent fan art?

Not yet!

What do you think makes a good story?

Anything that really delves to the core of what makes us human.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

Apart from that brief period where I wanted to be a horse, I’ve pretty much always wanted to be an
author.

What is that one weird quirk about yourself that no one else knows?

I have a germophobic thing about touching floors with bare feet or even in socks or slippers. I always
have to wear at least flip-flops in the house.

If you had your time back, what would you tell yourself about writing?

Listen to your editor/CP/beta reader. The darling you love so much now will probably be your least
favorite thing about the manuscript when you look back at it in a year or two.

Last but not least,

What advice would you give aspiring writers?

Don’t rush or skimp on any part of the process. Take all the time you need to make your manuscript the
best it can be.

Blood Oath (Blood Oath #2) by Amanda McCrina was and action packed, bloody historical fantasy read that will punch you right in the feels.

What a read, that detail! I felt like I was on the battle field. The world building was on point, and you can tell a lot of research went into making this as authentic, and entertaining as possible. I can't tell you enough how good this book is. I will warn you that there is a lot of bloody violence, so if you're not into that, then I just want to advised you of what you're getting into. Because though there is lots, the plot and story is good. Friendship is a big theme, and that ending.. my, my my... just when I thought my heart couldn't take any more.

This is part of a series, and it is a connecting one, so I do suggest reading the first book.

Overall, this book, series, is worth your time and, gets a super high recommendation from me. I can't wait to get my hands on the next!

Happy Reading

I write historical fiction and fantasy, almost always dealing with social justice, religious faith and practice, and moral gray areas against a backdrop of war.
