Summary from Goodreads:
The end of an Empire, The rise of a Queen
Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life. That is until two mysterious, and handsome soldiers show up at her apartment, and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Memphis Carter and Brokk Foster come from the magical and war ridden world of Kiero, and upon Emory's arrival she will discover she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line and is thrown into the Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne.
With both men being darkly woven in her past Emory uncovers hidden secrets, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.
Some things are better left in the shadows.

May Rating: 4 Stars.
This book was a little bit of a weird read for me. Don't get me wrong I quite like and enjoyed it, but I do have some issues.
The story was fast in some places and slow in others and at the same time I was frustrated with the weird sort-of-insta love / betrayal. There was a lot of telling, choppy scenes and at times I wasn't sure what was really going on. There was a shit tone of POV switches that I believe contributed to this confusion. There were simply to many scene switches and although that works wonders in TV and movies it doesn't play out to well in books.
My other issue, that weird as hell love mess, that didn't make a lick of scene. I'm a loyal person, so this is probably me just being bias, but I don't like it when a couple is forced apart to make room for the main female lead. I get for plot reason and twist that the other hot love interest couldn't step up, but at the same time, having your main male hero so obsessed over the female lead just takes away from the overall plot. I don't like when drama is created just to have drama or to move the story along.
As for our female lead, I didn't like her at the start, but she did grow on me towards the end, and basically she grew a set. She finally saw what needed to be done and got on with it, none of this wishy washy crap of needing to be saved, she did the saving and she isn't done with being the hero just yet. I can't wait for the next book to see what she has instore for the evil king.
There are some wicket twist and turns in this book, a few plot bombs and a cliff-hanger ending. I would have liked for the main story to have moved a bit fast to get to one twist in particular, I'm not going to say what that was, because you know spoilers. But I will say that it really tosses some fuel onto the fire. And the ending, ... Oh my heart, that ending sets the stage for what is to come, and it's going to be bloody and downright beautiful.
Though my review is mixed, I do highly recommend this book, then ending is something else, and it tells me that the rest of this series going to be fast, the body count is going to get higher and our lost princess is going to be demon to try and right the wrongs and rip out the evil that has plagued her land. I'm excited, itching for the next book. Don't take my word for it, read this book and you will understand.
Happy Reading
